How my web site was hijacked (4)

The irony here is that someone in say the UK cannot purchase digital music from the US Amazon store because record companies want Europe and the UK to pay the higher prices for the same product. In a location like Thailand we can't buy any legal digital version from any source - which is why the pirates are doing so well here of course. Another irony for those in the UK is that it still won't be legal to download any of the Beatles catalogue DRM free, that content is all locked up.

On the subject of MP3s, be careful what kind of MP3 player you buy as it may be mistaken as a gun. This happened in Stoke-on-Trent when Darren Nixon was listening to some music on his 4GB Philips player when armed police turned up and held him at gunpoint. It turns out some lady thought he had a gun in his pocket. So unless you want to be arrested, swabbed for DNA and have your mug shot taken for listening to music make sure you have your MP3 player when people can see it.

Plextor has done it again with the soon to be released PX-B920SA and PX-B300SA hybrid HD-DVD and Blu-ray SATA PC drives. The first one will write to BD-R at 4x speed and of course CDs and DVDs. The second unit is less expensive and just writes to the usual formats. No pricing info as yet but it will be a good way to hedge your bets on the winning format.

Yes, it took another teenager to do it, this time to crack the latest iPhone firmware versions and in doing so beat out a bunch of other hackers working on the process. By the time you read this, someone will have packed the whole thing into a neat utility, but kudos to George Hotz, aka "Geohot" for getting there first.
