I want to start this week with the story of a hijacked web site. Mine. I wanted to look something up on my site recently and was surprised to find that the content was no longer mine, instead it was content for a Bangkok-based translation service.
On checking with my hosting service they were also surprised that this had happened and apparently it involved piggybacking on a shared IP address, something I have now changed to a fixed IP. It took a couple of days for my web site to reappear because the change had to be reflected across the word's DNS servers but it is up and running again now.
My first thought was that my domain name had somehow expired without me knowing about it but as it turned out this was a simple and deliberate hijacking by a local company. The story highlights the need to check and update your sites from time to time to make sure that it has not been hacked. This also means that the security at your hosting service needs to be solid.
